Ali and Nino

In Baku between 1918 and 1920, Ali, a Muslim Azerbaijani prince, and Nino, a Christian Georgian aristocrat, fall in love in the Russian province of Azerbaijan. As the First World War erupts and powerful forces struggle for control of Baku’s oil, their relationship is tested by faith, class, and politics, forcing them to weigh devotion to each other against the fight for their country’s independence.
