Aspiring writer Cody is struggling with writer’s block when she forms an unlikely bond with Barbara, her boyfriend’s sex doll. Discarded by her original owner, Barbara is spoiled, jealous, and manipulative, but she also believes she can help Cody write again. Since Cody is the only one who can hear Barbara speak, she brings her home, and the two begin an odd partnership as they face life together.
