In Maaskantje, five friends lose their jobs as the economic crisis hits. Faced with being fired and unwilling to accept the situation quietly, they come up with a blunt response: they decide they will no longer pay for anything at all. Their shared refusal becomes the basis for a chaotic stand against the pressures closing in around them.
