A gifted swimmer who has drifted from his talent finds a reason to return to the pool when he enters a competition against his long-time rival. As two very different, restless youths are drawn into the same contest, their drive is shaped by love, friendship, and the need to prove themselves. What begins as a race becomes a rite of passage toward growing up.
