After a nervous breakdown brought on by life with her oppressive mother, a withdrawn, frumpy spinster begins therapy and slowly discovers a new sense of self. Emerging as a more elegant and independent woman, she takes a cruise where the affection of a man she meets helps her imagine a life beyond fear, control and the narrow expectations that once defined her.
