High-strung, cynical Larry Appleton is trying to make his own way in America when his distant cousin Balki Bartokomous arrives from eastern Mediterranean Europe to live with him. Balki is naive, cheerful, and good-natured, and his presence quickly upends Larry’s orderly life.
