Play On! Shakespeare in Silent Film

This archival compilation brings together surviving scenes from silent-era Shakespeare films made in the earliest days of cinema. Drawn from the BFI National Film and Television Archive, it showcases material from adaptations of King Lear, Twelfth Night, Hamlet, Richard III and The Merchant of Venice, alongside rarer screen versions of plays including Henry VIII and The Winter’s Tale.
