In a small American town, Ed Hemsler lives with his attention fixed on a disaster that may never happen, preparing for a future others may never see. Ronnie Meisner fills her life by shopping for things she may never use. As these two cautious, cluttered people are drawn toward each other, they try to make room for love without getting lost in the habits and possessions that define their lives.
