Waru

Waru is a feature made up of eight connected sequences, each directed by a Maori woman. The film unfolds around the tangi of a small boy who has died at the hands of his caregiver, using its shared focus to reflect on the grief, shock, and weight surrounding his death. Together, the segments form a restrained and challenging portrait of a community facing loss.
